A bug marking unread emails as read seems to have surfaced today within Gmail impacting some users of the email application. Whilst there is no official word yet from the Gmail team on the cause of the issue, it has been reported the root of the problem lies in changes made by Google to how Gmail handles IMAP emails.

News of the issue has quickly spread through online fora where many of the first users to experience the bug were concerned about a potential security breach to the service leaving them with 0 unread emails. It is unconfirmed whether the problem has been fixed at the time of this posting.
