In deze stad
In deze stad, op zondag
Geen kat op straat en geen geluid
Een licht heel vaag en ver net als gij
En ik loop zomaar wat straten in en uit
Maar één geluid breekt plots de stilte
het komt uit de lucht en het botst tegen torens en muren
't is de man aan de beiaard
en hij lijkt wel gek
hij speelt een lied dat wel uren blijft duren
alsof hij iets mist
iets of iemand waarvan hij weet dat het nu niet kan zijn
en dat is ook toevallig net hoe ik me voel
Heimwee naar jou en mij
en onze klok gelijk gezet
tot die van jou opeens bleef stilstaan
in andere armen in een ander bed
en de man aan de beiaard wordt gek
het scheelt echt niet veel of hij springt van de top van de toren
maar eerst nog een lied
hij is eenzaam daarboven alleen
