Dr. Aubrey de Grey is Chairman and Chief Science Officer of The Methuselah Foundation. His major research interests are the role and etiology of all forms of cellular and molecular damage in mammalian aging, and the design of interventions to reverse the age-related accumulation of such damage. He has published extensively on these and other areas of gerontology, and is also Editor-in-Chief of the high-impact journal Rejuvenation Research, the only peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on intervention in aging.

He has formulated a wide-ranging plan for the comprehensive and eventually indefinite postponement of age-related physical and mental decline, named SENS (Strategies for Engineered Negligible Senescence). He is the organiser of an ongoing series of conferences and workshops that focus on the key biomedical research relevant to SENS, and he also oversees the Methuselah Foundation's growing sponsorship of SENS research worldwide.

Medicine is growing exponentially fast and we are now beginning to unlock perhaps the first time the molecular secret of aging process itself. No one can deny the enormous power and potential of the bio-molecular revolution the power make us healthier, better, stronger the power to enrich our lives. The power to prolong our lives by years or even decades or perhaps even to make us immortal.

Prof. Guarente --we think that ... in my lab and now in other labs have identified a set of related genes called Sirtuins that are responsible for delivering the benefits of calorie restriction. My personal feeling is that if you affect the underlying aging process you will favourably impact all the major diseases of ageing... keep you healthier longer and live longer.

Joel Garreau--Author Radical Evolution Hard-nosed scientists have a big bet right now that the first person to robustly live to the age of 150 is already alive today ..this person could be in their 50's or 60's today. Perhaps all you have to do is to live in a healthy fashion for another 20 years and you could end up living for a very long time. All that has to happen ...is that the technology has to be advancing faster than you are ageing and you could be something like immortal, it's a credible scenario it could happen.

Dr. Haseltine --The nature of life is not mortality its immortality. DNA is an immortal molecule. That molecule was first known to be on earth perhaps 3.5 billion years ago. That self same molecule through duplication and reduplication and variation is around today. That molecule has been doing that for 3 and a half billion years which is as close to immortality as you will get on planet earth. Now its true that we run-out and rundown but we've talked about projecting way out into the future the ability to alter that, first to modify it so that we extend our lives 2 or 3 fold, then perhaps if we understand the brain well enough, to extend both our bodies and brains indefinitely and I don't think that will be an unnatural process.

Google Tech Talks
May 29, 2007

ABSTRACT

It may seem premature to be discussing approaches to the effective elimination of human aging as a cause of death at a time when essentially no progress has yet been made in even postponing it. However, two aspects of human aging combine to undermine this assessment. The first is that aging is happening to us throughout our lives but only results in appreciable functional decline after four or more decades of life: this shows that we can postpone the functional decline caused by aging arbitrarily well without knowing how to prevent aging completely, but instead by increasingly thorough molecular and cellular repair. The second is that the typical rate of...

Life extension may seem far-fetched to many, but it's not a fantasy. Driven by a convergence of numerous technological advancements, including Biotechnology, Cryopreservation, Nanotechnology and Artificial Intelligence, progress in life extension has already started. To advance global awareness, the Immortality Institute hosts an online forum, publishes books, produces films and sponsors conferences.

Het is een stukje van de 1U 45min durende officiële imminst film.
