Plain fact is, religion must die for mankind to live. The hour is getting very late to be able to indulge having in key decisions made by religious people. By irrationalists. B those who would steer the ship of state not by a compass, but by the equivalent of reading the entrails of a chicken.
George Bush prayed a lot about Iraq, but he didn't learn a lot about it... Faith means making a virtue out of not thinking. It's nothing to brag about. And those who preach faith and enable and elevate it are intellectual slaveholders keeping mankind in a bondage to fantasy and nonsense that has spawned and justified so much lunacy and destruction. Religion is dangerous because it allows human beings who don't have all the answers to think that they do.
Most people would think it's wonderful when someone says, "I'm willing, Lord! I'll do whatever you want me to do!" Except that since there are no gods actually talking to us, that void is filled in by people with their own corruptions and limitations and agendas... And anyone who tells you they know, they just know what happens when you die, I promise you you don't. How can I be so sure? Because I don't know, and you do not possess mental powers that I do not.
The only appropriate attitude for man to have about the big questions is not the arrogant certitude that is the hallmark of religion, but doubt. Doubt is humble, and that's what man needs to be, considering that human history is just a littany of getting shit dead wrong...
This is why rational people, anti-religionists, must end their timidity and come out of the closet and assert themselves. And those who consider themselves only moderately religious really need to look in the mirror and realize that the solace and comfort that religion brings you comes at a horrible price... If you belonged to a political party or a social club that was tied to as much bigotry, misogyny, homophobia, violence, and sheer ignorance as religion is, you'd resign in protest. To do otherwise is to be an enabler, a mafia wife, for the true devils of extremism that draw their legitimacy from the billions of their fellow travelers.
If the world does come to an end here, or wherever, or if it limps into the future, decimated by the effects of religion-inspired nuclear terrorism, let's remember what the real problem was. We learned how to precipitate mass death before we got past the neurological disorder of wishing for it. That's it. Grow up or die. -

Paus linkt homo's met regenwoud
VATICAANSTAD/JERUZALEM (REUTERS) - Homoseksueel gedrag voorkomen en vermijden is even belangrijk voor de mensheid als de redding van het regenwoud.
'De Kerk moet de mens ook beschermen tegen zelfvernietiging', verklaarde paus Benedictus XVI in een toespraak tot de Romeinse curie, de 'regering' van het Vaticaan. 'Er is nood aan een soort ecologie van de mens. Het regenwoud verdient onze bescherming. Maar de mens, als een schepsel, verdient zeker niet minder.'
Dat impliceert dat homoseksueel gedrag voorkomen moet worden. De mensheid moet volgens de paus 'luisteren naar de taal van de schepping' om tot een beter begrip te komen van de voorbestemde rol van man en vrouw. Gedrag dat verder gaat dan heteroseksuele relaties, kan neerkomen op 'een vernietiging van het werk van God'.
Intussen kondigden Palestijnse bronnen gisteren aan dat de paus in mei Jordanië, Israël en de Palestijnse gebieden zal bezoeken.
Van 8 tot 10 mei gaat de paus naar Jordanië, op 10 en 11 mei zal hij in Israël zijn en op 12 mei bezoekt hij Bethlehem - en mogelijk ook Ramallah, de zetel van de Palestijnse Autoriteit.
Het wordt de eerste reis van de paus naar het Heilige Land sinds zijn verkiezing in 2005. De twee voorgangers van Benedictus XVI, Johannes Paulus II en Paulus VI, bezochten beiden het Heilige Land.

I saw a slogan on a guy’s car: Proud to be an American.
I thought: What the fuck does that mean? Proud to be an American …You see I have never understood national pride, I have never understood ethnic pride.
You see: Im irish, all 4 of my grandparents were born in Ireland, so I am irish. When I was a kid I used to go to the St-Patricksday parade and I noticed they sold a button that said “Proud to be Irish” and I can never understand that because I knew on Columbus day they sold a different button that said: Proud to be Italian. Then came black pride and Puerto Rican pride and I can never understand national or ethnic pride because, according to me, pride should be reserved for something you achieved or attain on your own not something that happens by accident of birth.
Being Irish isn’t a skill, its a fucking genetic accident. You wouldn’t say you were proud to be 5’11’’ or I am proud to have a predisposition for colon cancer. So why would you be proud to be Irish or proud to be Italian or American or anything?
Hey, if you’re happy with it, that’s fine. Do that. Put that on your car: “Happy to be an American”.
Be happy, don’t be proud. Too much pride as it is. Pride goeth before a fall. Never forget proverbs, okay. -
